Make Your Home Cosier Without Turning…
The Sekonda Smart Ring launched on 21 September 2026 at an RRP of £79.99, and Sekonda says there is no subscription. Oura Ring 5 is from £399, and most of its app detail needs paid membership.
Prices were checked on 18 October 2026 and can change. Both are general wellness gadgets, and we have not tested either.
Quick Overview
- At the time of writing, checked on 18 October 2026, Sekonda is RRP £79.99 and Oura is from £399.
- Sekonda says there is no subscription; most Oura insights sit behind its optional membership.
- Sekonda says battery lasts 5 to 7 days; Oura says 6 to 9 days.
- Try a sizer for at least 24 hours (Oura) or 48 hours (Sekonda) before buying.
- No subscription does not mean your data stays on your phone.
- NHS inform's sleep tips are about everyday habits, so a ring is optional.

Price and running cost side by side
Sekonda Smart Ring
Sekonda's launch announcement says the ring went on sale on 21 September 2026 via Sekonda's website, H Samuel, Argos and Amazon. Sekonda says each ring comes with a charging case, USB cable and silicone protective cover.
- Price: RRP £79.99 at the time of writing (checked on 18 October 2026; retailer prices may differ).
- Ongoing cost: Sekonda's product page says 'no subscription ever'.
- Battery: Sekonda says 5 to 7 days; its own page says seven days, dependent on usage.
- Water resistance: Sekonda says up to 50m.
- Sizing: Sekonda recommends wearing a trial size for 48 hours and offers a free sizing kit.
- What the app shows: Sekonda says the ring tracks sleep quality, heart rate, HRV, blood oxygen, stress signals, skin temperature trends and women's cycle tracking.
- Where data goes: Sekonda's privacy policy says synced data is transferred to Sekonda's server.
Oura Ring 5
220 Triathlon's reviewer calls the subscription pretty essential for full access, though core tracking can be used free.
- Price: from £399 at John Lewis at the time of writing (checked on 18 October 2026; confirm the live price). Tech Advisor's launch coverage says premium finishes cost £499.
- Ongoing cost: membership is £5.99 a month or £69.99 a year, with the first month included for new members.
- Battery: Oura says 6 to 9 days per charge, depending on ring size and usage.
- Water resistance: not in the sources we checked, so confirm it on Oura's page.
- Sizing: Oura recommends its sizing kit, with the sizer worn for at least 24 hours including overnight. Half sizes are not available.
- What the app shows: Oura's support page says that without membership the app shows only the three daily scores, ring battery, basic profile, settings and Explore content.
- Where data goes: we did not check Oura's privacy policy, so read it before buying.
What the first year could cost: an illustration
Ring only versus ring plus membership
This is arithmetic from published prices, checked on 18 October 2026. It is not personal financial advice or a guaranteed saving, and it ignores Oura's free first month and any discounts. The membership price is as checked on 18 October 2026 and may change.
Membership is optional, so there are two Oura routes to set against Sekonda:
- Oura ring only: from £399, with the limited app view described above.
- Oura ring plus annual membership, year one: £399 plus £69.99 is £468.99.
- Oura ring plus annual membership, two years: £399 plus 2 x £69.99 is £538.98.
- Sekonda: RRP £79.99, with no membership fee stated by Sekonda.

Battery, water resistance and sizing
Sekonda: battery and build
Sekonda says battery lasts 5 to 7 days (its own page says up to seven days, depending on usage) and that water resistance is up to 50m. It comes in gold or silver stainless steel and six sizes.
Oura: battery and build
Oura says Ring 5 weighs from 2g and quotes 6 to 9 days per charge, depending on ring size and usage. Finishes run from Silver and Black to four premium options.
Oura's water resistance was not in the sources we checked, so confirm it on Oura's page before buying.
Sekonda: sizing
Sekonda recommends wearing a trial size for 48 hours and offers a free sizing kit. It is worth using: one Woman&Home reviewer found the design chunky after about a week, and comfort is personal.
Oura: sizing
Oura recommends its sizing kit, with the sizer worn for at least 24 hours including overnight. Half sizes are not available, so if you sit between two sizes, that overnight wear is where you will find out.
What the app shows and where your data goes
What each app shows
Sekonda says its ring tracks sleep quality, heart rate, HRV, blood oxygen, stress signals, skin temperature trends and women's cycle tracking, and syncs with Apple Health and Health Connect. Those are features the maker lists, not proof of accuracy.
Oura's support page says that without membership the app shows only the three daily scores (Readiness, Activity, Sleep), ring battery, basic profile, settings and Explore content, and that most detailed insights sit behind membership. Oura also works through an account and app. We did not check Oura's privacy policy, so read it yourself.
Both are general wellness gadgets; speak to a GP or pharmacist about health concerns.
A privacy checklist before you buy
Sekonda's privacy policy says that when you sync, data recorded on the ring is transferred to Sekonda's server, including heart rate, sleep status and location. 'No subscription' is not the same as 'data stays on your phone'. Before buying either ring, check:
- What data is stored
- Where it syncs to
- How to delete your account
- Whether you want health data in an account at all
What we have not tested

The limits of the evidence
One Woman&Home reviewer, after about a week with the Sekonda, praised its value and heart-rate tracking but said sleep tracking lacks detail. The Oura view from 220 Triathlon is covered above.
We have not tested either ring ourselves, and we do not rank either as more accurate. Specifically, we have not checked:
- Long-term accuracy
- Sleep-stage quality
- How app updates change things
- Comfort over months of wear
Who each ring suits
The curious beginner
An RRP of £79.99 and no stated membership fee make Sekonda an easier first try if you want a daily and overnight overview. Use the free sizing kit and read the privacy policy first. One reviewer found sleep tracking light on detail, so keep expectations modest.
Someone who wants polished sleep insights
Oura may suit you if you want its detailed insights and accept membership as part of the cost. We make no claim that any ring improves sleep; the extra detail only earns its price if you will actually read it.

Someone who wants less screen time
Both rings need an app, so a ring only cuts screen time if you look at the app rarely. Here is a one-minute rule: work out your year-one cost, then ask whether you will check the app weekly or daily.
If weekly, or if a simple overview is enough, the cheaper ring or no ring is the lower-regret choice. If daily and you want the detail, budget for Oura's membership.
Pros and cons of paying for the pricier ring
Pros
- Detailed insights are available through membership, if you will use them
Cons
- Higher upfront cost, plus optional membership
- No half sizes, so sizing needs care
If you want something simpler than either ring
A screen-free band
A screen-free band is a simple alternative to a ring. Check the running cost and the privacy policy, as you would with a ring.
Habits first, no tracker
NHS inform suggests going to bed and getting up at the same time every day, getting outdoors in daylight, reducing caffeine and turning off devices at least 90 minutes before bed. None of that needs a gadget. See a GP about ongoing sleep problems.
FAQ
Is the Sekonda ring really subscription-free?
Sekonda's product page says 'no subscription ever', and that is Sekonda's claim. Syncing still sends data to its servers under its privacy policy, so read the policy and the app terms before you buy.
Can I use Oura without membership?
Only in a limited way. Oura's support page says the app shows the three daily scores, ring battery, basic profile, settings and Explore content without membership. Most detailed insights sit behind it, and rules may change.
Are these medical devices?
Sekonda's Google Play listing says the ring is intended for general wellness and fitness purposes only. This article treats both rings as wellness gadgets, not medical devices. Speak to a GP or pharmacist about any health concern.
Does a ring improve sleep?
We make no such claim for either ring. NHS inform's sleep tips are about habits such as regular bed and wake times, daylight and less caffeine, which apply whether or not you wear a tracker.
Should I wait for Black Friday?
We cannot say. Prices change and we have not verified any promotion, so check live prices at the retailer when you are ready, and do not assume a discount will appear.
Verdict
If a simple overnight and daily overview is enough, the cheaper ring, or no ring, is the lower-cost route. Choose Oura if you want its detailed insights and will pay for membership. The biggest reservation is that we have not tested either ring, and both sync data to an account.
Next step: order a sizer, read the privacy policy and confirm live prices. Habits count with or without a ring.
