Tailwind says its SmartPin feature drafts a new Pin for each web page you add, every 7 days, so one person is not designing fresh images by hand each week. This explainer covers what it does, what it costs in credits, Pinterest's rules and the free alternative. No tool can guarantee traffic.
Quick Overview
- Per Tailwind, SmartPin adds a new draft Pin for each URL you give it every 7 days.
- Tailwind says you review, edit and approve each draft before anything goes out.
- Tailwind lists drafts at 1, 3 or 7 credits, with plans priced in USD, checked on 19 October 2026.
- Active SmartPins keep using credits in the background, even when you are logged out.
- Pinterest's own free scheduler and RSS auto-publish are worth trying before you pay.
- No tool guarantees Pinterest traffic, so judge SmartPin on time saved.

What SmartPin actually does
The basic idea
According to Tailwind, you add a URL once and SmartPin creates a unique Pin draft for that page every 7 days. Tailwind says Pinterest prioritises fresh Pins, meaning images it has not seen before, which is why SmartPin makes a new design each week.
That is Tailwind's explanation, not Pinterest's, and it is not a promise that fresh Pins lead to more visits.
The review step, with a checklist
Tailwind says new drafts appear in its dashboard for quick approval, light edits and scheduling, so you stay in control of what is published. Before approving each draft, check that:
- The title matches what the page actually offers.
- The image is accurate and readable at small size.
- The link goes to the right URL.
- The description is not a repeat of last week's.
What each SmartPin tier costs in credits
Photo-only: 1 credit
Tailwind says a Photo-only SmartPin costs 1 credit per generation. It is the cheapest of the three tiers.
Basic (template): 3 credits
Tailwind says a Basic SmartPin, built on a template, costs 3 credits per generation. It suits pages where you want a designed look without paying for AI images.
Premium (AI-generated image): 7 credits
Tailwind says a Premium SmartPin with an AI-generated image costs 7 credits. Editing a Premium design re-generates it and uses another 7 credits.
Which tier to pick
Rule: pick the cheapest tier whose look you would genuinely post under your own name. These are Tailwind's published tiers, checked on 19 October 2026. Older Tailwind posts and third-party reviews quote 3 or 5 credits, so ignore those and check the live page.
How credits run down, and why prices keep moving
Credits drain in the background
Tailwind says each active SmartPin generates a new draft every 7 days, and each generation uses credits even when you are not logged in. As a simple illustration, not a forecast: one Premium draft at 7 credits is already more than the 5 credits a month on Free Forever, while a Photo-only draft is 1. Every extra URL you switch on makes credits go faster, so start with one or two pages.
Scheduling draws on the same allowance. On a paid plan it uses 1 credit, and extra credits are $10 per 100, according to Tailwind's terms as checked on 19 October 2026 via a search snapshot. Prices can change, so confirm on the page.
Why older reviews disagree
A third-party tracker, Followed, reported on 17 August 2026 that Tailwind had rebuilt its pricing page for the second time in two months, moving to credit-metered tiers. That is one reason older reviews quote different credit figures. Treat any review that does not show a date with caution.

Expect US dollars
Every Tailwind figure here is in USD, and no UK price was confirmed (see the plans section below).
Plan allowances at a glance (USD, from page snapshots)
Free Forever
Tailwind's pricing page lists 5 posts and 5 credits a month.
Pro
Listed at 150 posts and 150 credits. The price was not visible in the page snapshot, so we do not state one.
Advanced
Listed at 300 posts and 300 credits. Shown at $29.99 a month on annual billing, with $54.99 struck through.
Max
Listed at unlimited posts and 1,000 credits. Shown at $49.99 a month on annual billing, with $99.99 struck through.
Read these as a snapshot
These are USD prices on annual billing, as shown in a pricing page snapshot (checked 19 October 2026 via search; confirm on the page). They are not a quote, and prices can change. We have not converted them to pounds, and no UK price was confirmed. Plans change often, so check Tailwind's live page before you decide.
What SmartPin cannot promise
Vendor claims are not evidence
Tailwind makes claims that its Pins outperform others. That is a vendor claim, and we found no independent, controlled evidence for it, so we do not repeat it as fact. SmartPin makes drafts. It does not make visits.
Audience size is not your traffic
Pinterest reported about 640 million global monthly active users for the quarter ended 30 June 2026. That is a worldwide figure. It says nothing about UK readers or about how any one site will do.
Choose pages by search demand
Picking pages people are likely to search for may help, and your own analytics will show what happened. Keyword research can help you choose pages worth pinning, though Tailwind's own keyword searches draw on the same credits.
Staying inside Pinterest's rules
What the guidelines say
In plain terms, Pinterest's Community Guidelines say not to use automation that Pinterest has not explicitly approved, and not to create or save repetitive, deceptive or irrelevant content to make money.
Tailwind says it publishes through Pinterest's official API. That is Tailwind's statement, and no tool is safe or risk-free. Read the current guidelines yourself.
A checklist before you automate
Use this before switching SmartPin on for any page:
- Read Pinterest's current Community Guidelines.
- Keep each Pin relevant to the page it links to.
- Vary titles and images from week to week.
- Do not mislead people about what the link leads to.

A board tip
Tailwind's FAQ suggests avoiding sharing the same Pin to more than 10 boards, because pinning one Pin to too many can reduce its reach. That is Tailwind's reading of Pinterest's guidance, not a Pinterest rule.
The free route first: Pinterest's own tools
Pinterest's free scheduler and RSS
According to Pinterest's Creators blog, its own tools let you queue up to 10 Pins up to 30 days ahead, upload up to 200 Pins by CSV, and auto-publish new blog posts from an RSS feed. It costs nothing. Limits may have changed, so check the Pinterest tool itself.
SmartPin
SmartPin drafts designs for you, which is the time it saves. It uses credits for each draft, and the allowances are in the plans section. Tailwind says you review and approve each draft. The trade is simple: you pay in credits and subscription to avoid making the images yourself.
Who it suits and who can skip it
Suits you if you
SmartPin is more likely to earn its credits if you:
- Run a one-person blog or shop with several evergreen pages.
- Are short on design time.
- Will review the drafts every week.
- Are happy to cap how many pages use credits.
You can skip it if you
You can probably skip it if you:
- Have only one or two pages worth pinning.
- Enjoy designing Pins by hand.
- Have not yet tried Pinterest's free tools.
- Would not review a draft each week.
The review test
If you would not review the draft each week, the automatic part will not save you time.
Frequently asked questions
Does SmartPin post without my approval?
Per Tailwind, new drafts appear in your dashboard for approval, light edits and scheduling, so you review before anything goes out. Still check each Pin's title, image and link yourself before approving it.
How many credits does one SmartPin use?
Tailwind's current tiers are 1 credit for Photo-only, 3 for Basic and 7 for Premium. Editing a Premium design uses another 7. Tailwind has changed pricing more than once, so check the live page.
Can I use it on the free plan?
Tailwind's pricing page lists 5 credits a month on Free Forever, and one Premium draft at 7 credits would exceed that. Confirm on the live page that SmartPin is included before you rely on it.
Is it allowed by Pinterest?
Pinterest's Community Guidelines bar unapproved automation and repetitive or deceptive content. Tailwind says it publishes through Pinterest's official API, but that is its own statement and no tool is risk-free. Read the current guidelines.
Will it increase my traffic?
No tool can promise that. SmartPin makes drafts, and whether those Pins bring visitors depends on what people search for, how useful your pages are and how Pinterest distributes them. Check your own analytics.
Verdict
SmartPin is a time-saver for a small site owner who will review drafts each week, not a traffic guarantee. The biggest reservation is background credit use, plus USD pricing that has shifted before. Start with Pinterest's free scheduler and RSS auto-publish. If you still want drafted designs, check Tailwind's live page and test SmartPin on a single page. Treat the feature descriptions here as Tailwind's own.
